about

This song is about things I've seen at various bars where I have worked as a musician. The names of the bars have been changed to protect the innocent.

Twelve Bar Blues
(c) Jonathan Churcher February 2011

VERSE ONE
It’s my favorite place, the Angel’s Heart
I stopped there once, and got my start.
Relax, breathe deep, empty the mind
Leave your body and the planet behind
Float free for a while, go with the flow, glimpse the
Promised Land, enjoy the show
At the Angel’s Heart, I saw you there
Radiating love and care
Even today as I walk the streets
I see that warmth in everyone I meet
This may look like a pleasure cruise
Ain’t no such thing its a 12-bar blues

VERSE TWO
Here we are at the Something Out of Ten
So you never know who’s foe or friend
I’m staring around the room like a maniac,
Looking for a pair of eyes that are staring back.
I love an Old Town woman in a feverish way
But she don’t love me that’s plain as day
The Something Out of Ten shows lessons learned
Like, sooner or later someone gets burned like when a
Married man hangs with a single woman
He’s gonna to feel some pain but he had it coming
There’s a chance that you’ll get bruised
It’s all part of the 12-bar blues

VERSE THREE
Here we are at the Lost and Found where
Fate and destiny buy the rounds
It’s dark in here and that’s a shame
Because we’re all trying to help each other win this game
Every time someone new walks in
It’s déjà vue all over again
Sometimes Cupid provides a spark
That’s enough to get us out of the dark
Such a wild place where anything goes
The good news is they never close
That in itself is a wonderful clue
There ain’t no end to the 12-bar blues

credits

I wrote this song and do the lead singing and play rhythm guitar, bass, and harmonica. Friends and acquaintances filled in the rest of the instruments and voices.

In 2011, I wrote, performed, and produced a CD - Acasta Island.
