about

This new track (December 2016) that honour the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. David Dowe (davidsdowe@gmail.com) is th eproducer and engineer. I wrote the song and laid down the vocal lines and basic guitar tracks; David added lead guitar, bass, drums, and a lot of great sounds that really bring the song to life.

lyrics

"The oracles are silent, the deities are mute.
Looks like we are all we've got to find a better route."

Verse One
In the Rockies is a mountain called The Sleeping Buffalo.
To build the nation's railway, they took away the coal.
Now a different collier works a different mine.
Searching for the treasures of the visionary mind.

Verse Two
Frustration and exhaustion haunt this shadowy domain.
Your heart becomes a shovel, a pick axe is your brain.
Everyone who labours there, no matter how inclined.
Eventually pays homage to the visionary mind.

Chorus
It may strike you when you're sleeping, or claim you in a crowd.
Come to you as a fleeting thought or an image in a cloud.
A confluence of fables in a crucible of time.
Who knows where it comes from - the visionary mind.

Verse Three
Down the main shaft goes a playwright, another all-night shift.
Stumbling in the darkness, she sometimes curses it.
Maybe one short monologue is all that she can find.
Later she'll be thankful for the visionary mind.

Verse Four
Musicians have a blast when they wander underground.
The creaking cracking rocks - a whole new world of sound.
Later on the surface they finally unwind.
Letting loose the power of the visionary mind.

Chorus
It may strike you when you're sleeping, or claim you in a crowd.
Come to you as a fleeting thought or an image in a cloud.
A confluence of fables in a crucible of time.
Who knows where it comes from - the visionary mind.

"We are the hominids, sapiens, the powerful wise ones.
We've busted open atoms and made huge cities run.
But this can't go on much longer, as everybody knows.
We've got some heavy debts to pay not far down the road."

Verse One repeat
In the Rockies is a mountain called The Sleeping Buffalo.
To build the nation's railway, they took away the coal.
Now a different collier works a different mine.
Searching for the treasures of the visionary mind.

In 2011, I wrote, performed, and produced a CD - Acasta Island.
